The Jordanian Olympic Committee (JOC) is the non-profit governing body for sport in Jordan which has 36 Federations & 10 committees under its umbrella consisting of both Olympic and non-Olympic sports. Under the Presidency of HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein, the JOC has become a model for administrative excellence and is spreading the Spirit of Olympism throughout the Kingdom by ensuring sport plays a greater role in the every day life of all Jordanians.        
 
Following a strategic review, the JOC is taking the significant step of appointing a Technical Director to work with both elite performance & participation lead national governing bodies (NGB) to establish the necessary frameworks to deliver successful programmes. These programmes will form the basis of the JOC’s long term strategy for sporting success on the international stage and ensure the continued development of talented Jordanian athletes.
 
Working with senior members of the JOC, the NGB senior management teams and Jordanian Federations, the Technical Director will work to develop & implement a performance pathway that allows each the 36 sports it represents to enhance domestically but also to develop competitors to compete on the national & international stage.
 
Main Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop a short, medium and long term strategic plan for each sport to promote it at both a grassroots / participation level through to regional / international competition.
  • Create a tailor made evaluation system to monitor and report on performance of the NGB’s.
  • Offer first hand technical, multisport advice to senior management within the JOC & NGB’s, offering credibility through previous experience, working closely with each federation on each sport, and will be a member on all related committees within JOC.
  • Establish Talent Identification programmes with each sport and ensure their effective monitoring through the JOC and the sports themselves.
  • Ensure that all aspects of the programmes meet international standards in the areas of ethics, child protection, welfare and health & safety.
  • Supervise, monitor and evaluate the deployment Federations’ action plans.
  • Conduct a full assessment of the existing status of sports in Jordan (provide full SWOT analysis report), benchmarking with other countries at Olympic level and setting clear KPIs with detailed action plans to migrate Jordan’s sports to the desired level.
  • Integrate the National Coaching Certification Programme as part of the plan, coordinate and work with those responsible to ensure their coaching strategy is aligned with development strategy of Federations.
  • Ensure best practice is captured, shared and integrated into policy reform, programmes & processes and to drive a culture of creativity and innovation, with focus on capacity building.
  • Work internationally to promote the work for the JOC and its supported sports through conferences, industry events and offering advise on best practice to countries in the region.
  • Help the JOC establish an Institute of Sport similar to the Australian Institute of and identify the sports the Institute should focus on in the first eight years of operation.
Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications
  • Demonstrable success as a leader within a high performance sport and offer genuine respectability within the sector.
  • Highly developed managerial and administration skills, including strategic planning, problem solving and decision making, budgetary control and report writing.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the high performance environment, including coaching, sports science & medicine, international competition and development pathways.
  • Experience of liaison with internal and external agencies including international federations, including the preparation of plans, reports and funding applications.
  • First-hand experience as a coach or team manager of international sports competitions
  • Demonstrable ability to manage performance groups.
