This position is based in Las Vegas, the UFC’s hometown and the Fight Capital of the World. Las Vegas matches the passion and energy of the UFC and offers a vast array of entertainment, restaurants, spas, golf courses, shops and accommodations. The UFC, owned and operated by Zuffa, LLC, has additional offices in London, Toronto, Singapore and Sao Paulo.

About the UFC Performance Institute

The UFC Performance Institute (PI)  will be a Las Vegas based training sanctuary for UFC athletes that will focus on strength and conditioning, rehabilitation, nutrition, and overall fight preparation.  The UFC PI will be approximately 30,000 square feet in part of a greater UFC Corporate Campus spanning around 185,000 square feet in total.  The state of the art facility will be accessible to UFC athletes and staff at launch and will eventually open its doors to non-MMA athletes as well.  In addition to seeking leaders in the field of Performance to innovate this new program for the UFC, the facility will utilize ground breaking performance and recovery technology along with a full-size octagon for sparring and MMA specific training.  The VP of Performance will not only have the opportunity to pioneer Health and Performance for the UFC, but, will be able to lead efforts to create the PI into a destination for athletes of all sports globally.

The Role

Our office consists of people who are passionate, dedicated and innovative people. Aligned with the overall strategy of the UFC and the UFC Performance Institute (PI), the VP, Performance will lead the development and implementation of all aspects of athlete health and performance within the PI. This role will work closely with UFC Executives, PI Operations team, and the Medical team to develop the world’s leading training institution in terms of performance, welfare, and research into MMA and combat sports in general.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assumes overall leadership of the UFC PI performance program
  • Develops, leads, and manages a high-performing, multi-disciplinary team.
  • Assumes oversight of resource allocation, scheduling, and programming for the Institute
  • Develops third-party consultant relationships. Forms strategic partnerships with industry leaders in the areas of sports science, nutrition, and performance technology and analysis
  • Develops and implements support systems to aid in athlete assessments, and data collection and management
  • Cultivates relationships with athletes, coaches, and gyms to distribute evidence-based relevant information
  • Works with the Medical team to develop referral relationships with leading Surgeons and Physical Therapists worldwide
  • Establishes treatment, rehabilitation, and recovery protocols
  • Establishes agreed-upon performance targets
  • Performs on-going training with athletes, coaches, and PI staff members to ensure continued professional development and adherence to professional codes of conduct
  • Maintains budgetary control, and works closely with Operations to ensure the smooth running of the PI
  • Develops and implements research projects in highlighted areas of MMA-related sports science and medicine
  • Performs other tasks, projects, and responsibilities to establish a world class performance facility

Skills & Experience Required


  • PhD or other Post Graduate Degree in Sports Science or other related 
  • curriculum required
  • 10+ years of high-level technical management experience in science, research, and/or strength and conditioning fields
  • Previous experience working effectively in a high performance environment 
  • with elite athletes and coaches
  • Personal or professional experience in combat or contact sport is preferred, 
  • but not required
  • Understanding of the demands of the MMA sport (i.e. physical, physiology, 
  • gender-specific, weight categories, weight management, travel requirements, etc.)
  • Understanding of existing evidence-based research, and the implementation of new research areas to enhance the sport, athletes, and coaches
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze a sport in relations to their performance needs, and to develop, implement, and evaluate programs for individual athletes
  • Previous experience leading an elite-level multi-disciplinary team, and reporting to an Executive-level role or Board
