The AOC is recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the National Olympic Committee for Australia. It has exclusive authority for Australia’s representation at the Olympic Games, Olympic Winter Games, Youth Olympic Games and the Winter Youth Olympic Games. This is an exciting time for the AOC and all National Sporting Organisations, as they embark on the next 4 year cycle to Tokyo 2020, and also Pyeongchang 2018.
The AOC seek a Manager, Games Support & Operations to plan and deliver all support services and operational functions relating to Australian Olympic Teams.
Australia is rightly a very proud sporting nation and the Olympics and Olympic success helps define the very nature of our country. The role demands unrivalled communication and stakeholder management skills, with the diplomacy to operate across all National Sporting Organisations, internationally within the IOC, and with major events bodies and local organising committees, and has such has good profile across the industry. 

Key Responsibilities
  • Overall responsibility for the planning and delivery of support services and operations for Australian Olympic Teams. This includes, but is not limited to, outfitting, medical services, accommodation, freight, logistics, transportation, procurement and air travel.
  • Develop and scope the planning phases for Games planning in line with resources and allocated budgets.
  • Develop operations plans and document processes for all functional areas managed by this role.
  • Develop the scope of work for tender/commercial documents for Games and AOC corporate business as it relates to accommodation, transportation, freight and logistics services. Manage a tender review panel, as required, and provide recommendations to management.
  • Develop and monitor the budget for all support services and operations budget items including outfitting, medical services, accommodation, freight, logistics, transportation, procurement and air travel.
  • Display commercial acumen by identifying cost savings across all budget responsibilities.
  • Provide insights into industry best practice in managing support services and operational functional areas.
  • Manage the outfitting program, in conjunction with the AOC’s commercial team, including Rule 50 approvals, allocation of uniform items, specialised equipment applications process, identification and set-up of a uniform distribution centre and the uniform distribution process.
  • Analyse accommodation requirements for Australian Teams and manage the accommodation program.
  • Develop and manage the bump in and bump out plan for all Australian Olympic Teams.
  • Manage the allocation of head quarter operational spaces within the Olympic Village and develop the layout plans with each functional area.
  • Work with all functional areas to identify procurement items. Work with the AOC’s commercial team to ensure items are procured in a timely manner.
  • Work with all functional areas to identify rate card items to be sourced. Manage the ordering and delivery of rate card items with the relevant organising committees.
  • Work with medical teams to manage the medical personnel appointments, medical support services and recovery services.
  • Develop a risk register, including risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans.
  • Manage staff and volunteers within the core business structure and within the Games time structure.
  • Review processes and systems in place and provide recommendations of how they can be improved.
  • Develop strong working relationships with National Federations and commercial partners.
  • Provide insight into the athlete experience and high performance priorities. 
  • Other ad hoc duties as required.

Skills & Experience Required


The role will have working realtionships with all AOC departments and functional areas including the Commercial team and Lagardere, as well as Olympic Games Organising Committess, National Federations, Sports Institutes.
The role will attend and contribute to Games Support and Operations department’s meetings and establish a positive working relationship with other AOC departments and personnel.
The AOC seek an individual with; 
  • Significant operational experience in largescale sporting events 
  • Experience in managing the movement of people and equipment internationally.
  • Experience in working with athletes in a major event environment will be highly regarded;
  • Experience in managing team operations outside of Australia;
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and build strong partnerships with a variety of suppliers;
  • Ability to see the bigger picture and assist across functional areas where required
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines whilst maintaining attention to detail;
  • A can-do energetic attitude
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly during times of stress
