Background
Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and the FIL is now in a position to appoint its first dedicated Chief Executive Officer. This is a truly unique opportunity to set the path towards achieving its strategic vision: that Lacrosse is recognized and played by all countries world-wide and becomes an Olympic sport.
With responsibility for implementing the organisational structure, operations and professional staff, selecting and managing outsourced services, and delivering key organizational functions, the Chief Executive Officer will lay down the foundations for the FIL to more effectively develop and scale the sport internationally and best serve its members. 
Key priorities also include: 
  • Leading the re-imagination the organisation’s World Championship platform to maximize revenue and exposure
  • Advancing the organisation’s Olympic aspirations
  • Representation of the organisation to IWGA, SportAccord and other international sports bodies
  • Leading the growth of commercial platforms
  • Developing and directing the implementation of the organisation’s growth strategies throughout the world

Key Responsibilities
Marketing and Communications
  • Strengthening the position of lacrosse on the world sporting stage
  • Developing and maintaining effective contact and communications with FIL member federations and other relevant bodies
  • Development and implementation of the FIL’s communications and marketing strategy
  • Income Generation (fundraising and partnerships)
  • Development and implementation of the FIL’s fundraising program
  • Evolving the format, structure and policies of FIL events
  • Developing and managing the FIL’s commercial activity relative to sponsorship platform and media rights
 
Financial and Legal
  • Preparing the budget and managing the finances of the FIL
  • Ensuring that all contractual matters relating to FIL operations are effectively negotiated, managed and organized
 
Development
  • Supporting the development of lacrosse as a global sport
  • Representing the FIL on other relevant bodies as required
  • Advancing the organisation’s Olympic aspirations
 
Administration
  • Advising the Board on all relevant matters 
  • Organizing and attending meetings of the FIL Board and General Assembly as required
  • Overseeing the organization of FIL events
  • Oversight of the FIL’s anti-doping program
  • Management of staff as assigned
  • Discharging other duties and functions as may be required from time to time

Skills & Experience Required

Essential:

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline
  • Proven, long-term leadership experience in national/international sports administration or comparable field
  • Knowledge of the sport of lacrosse
  • Experience with sponsorship development and management
  • Financial management experience and skills
  • Ability to work in partnership with volunteers
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment
  • Experience with project management strategies and techniques
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office applications and similar software platforms
  • International travel
  • Fluent in English
  • Excellent communication skills
 

Desired:

  • Masters’ Degree in Business Administration
  • Additional language skills
  • Experience in contract development and negotiation
  • Experience with broadcasting rights management

Accountabilities: 
The CEO is accountable to the FIL Board and, on a day-to-day basis, reports to the FIL President.  The CEO is also an ex-officio member of the FIL Board.

Background on FIL

The Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) is the international governing body for grassroots and elite lacrosse, with 56 nations across six continents in its membership. It is responsible for the governance and integrity of all forms of Lacrosse and provides leadership to support the sport’s development throughout the world. Its income is made up of funding from sponsorship, ticket sales, membership dues and fees and private funding. 

The FIL was established in August 2008 in a merger of both the men’s and women’s international lacrosse associations. The FIL currently holds five World Championships, each of which are held every four years:

  • Men’s World Lacrosse Championship
  • Men’s Under-19 World Lacrosse Championship
  • Men’s World Indoor Lacrosse Championship
  • Women’s Lacrosse World Cup
  • Women’s Under-19 World Lacrosse Championship
