Background
The AFL is Australia’s premier sporting organisation supporting a constantly evolving national competition which has experienced rapid growth over the past 10 years.  The AFL currently has over 600 permanent employees across the five state bodies, AFL Vic, Tasmania, NSW/ACT, QLD, NT and at AFL House.  The AFL organisation is responsible for growing and developing Australian Football across Australia. 
This broad executive level role will build partnerships with Government, Affiliates, Community Organizations, Corporate Partners and AFL Clubs to ensure that diversity, commercial and infrastructure outcomes continue to be delivered.
The role is responsible for leading the infrastructure plan for AFL in NSW and the ACT.  The plan encompasses an audit of current football infrastructure; identification of future needs; a plan for priority growth regions, a response to relevant external factors (e.g. council amalgamations, new Clubs, female football, growth etc.); support for affiliate leagues and the implementation of strategic investment projects.
The role also works with various stakeholders to support and implement the strategy for Diversity Program engagement throughout NSW and the ACT.
The position will be filled by a strategically minded, results driven leader who can work with all parts of the business to drive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of the New South Wales and ACT government relations plan in consultation with the AFL NSW/ACT, AFL Head Office and Government Relations team
  • Build relationships with all levels of Government and with Private stakeholders
  • Extend the AFL partnerships with cricket, netball and other stakeholders as required
  • Develop an understanding of the business plans of the Sydney Swans and GWS GIANTS to identify opportunities to promote and collaborate in the best interests of the code
  • Assess and identify AFL NSW ACT’s facility planning requirements to develop a strategic Infrastructure Plan.  Co-ordinate the implementation of the Plan focusing on facilitating partnership opportunities
  • Support the preparation of needs analysis and feasibility studies, business cases and briefs business opportunities across partnerships, diversity and major projects
  • Manage leasing agreements on AFL NSW ACT office and facility requirements
  • Manage the strategic requirements of the AFL’s national Diversity programs within NSW & ACT (including Indigenous and Multicultural)
  • Realise value of properties and assets the designing and packaging quality sponsorship proposals and presentations
  • Negotiate sponsorship opportunities with commercial partners, including renewals
  • Provide account management and servicing to a select group of key sponsors to ensure retention and growth

Skills & Experience Required

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications in related discipline
  • Extensive experience in dealing and liaising with State and Local Governments
  • Experience in planning and development of major projects with sound project management skills
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining community partnerships

  • Proven strategic planning and implementation capabilities
  • Strong commercial acumen

Desired:

  • Knowledge, experience and understanding of Indigenous and Multicultural people, diversity, communities and cultures
  • Understanding of contemporary trends, processes and issues relating to community planning and development.
