Our client

The International Boxing Association AIBA (www.aiba.org), based in Lausanne (Switzerland), with its 196 member federations, governs the sport of boxing, working for the benefit of the sport and all its participants, to help boxing realize its potential within the Olympic Movement and the international sporting arena.

Today, and since the election of its current President Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu on November 6, 2006, AIBA is probably one of the most ambitious and dynamic International Sports Federations in the world of Olympic Sports. It has gone through substantial reforms in order to become a transparent, trustable and professionally operated governing body and become a respected and model organization where efficiency, honesty and equality are ever present.

AIBA has set itself the mission to govern the sport of boxing in all its forms, amateur and professional, giving boxers a truly integrated and global career development possibility. A first step towards a further integration of the traditionally separated worlds of amateur and professional boxing, where professional boxers compete under different rules and regulations and are not allowed to compete in the World Championships or Olympic Games, was made by AIBA with the launch of the World Series of Boxing in 2010 (www.worldseriesofboxing.com), a city based franchise competition. This competition allowed amateur boxers to compete professionally, having a fixed salary from their club, and still represent their country in the World Championships and with a possible Olympic participation as a reward.

In August 2011, AIBA President Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu announced the next steps in the ambitious reforms with the project called Boxing 16. Boxing 16 includes the launch of AIBA Professional Boxing (APB) in the spring of 2013 where individual professional boxers will be able to compete for individual national, continental and global rankings under the same fundamental rules as the country- and club competitions, and continue to represent their countries in the WC and OG as well as their clubs.

On behalf of AIBA, we are looking for the person to lead APB and who wants to make a difference in the world of professional boxing.

About the role

Reporting to the APB Board for strategic issues, and to the AIBA Executive Director for operational issues, the CEO will ultimately responsible for the day to day operations of the APB Headquarters.

In a first phase (2012), the CEO and his team of project managers will lead the set up of the APB structure and prepare the APB Competitions and Events that are planned to start in 2013. The CEO will work closely together with the AIBA Marketing Company (BMA) for any commercially related matters and recruit a team of professionals to run the organisation as of 2013.

More specifically, the CEO will lead:

  • The registration of the competition
  • The development of manuals and guidelines
  • The contracting of APB Boxers
  • The contracting of management referees and judges, supervisors, ringside doctors and promoters if necessary
  • The oversight of the training and certifying programs of all above mentioned individuals
  • The hosting of the APB Congress amongst key nations

As of the start in Spring 2013, the CEO and his team will be ultimately responsible to manage both international and continental APB matches and provide sanctions to all national level APB matches.
