Over the last two years English Professional Football (the Premier League, the Football League and the Football Association) have conducted a comprehensive review of youth development. As a result of this,  an "Elite Player Performance Plan" has been developed. The plan sets out the way in which clubs will develop young players, and has in recent weeks been given the green light by Clubs.

New rules are now being drawn up for ratification in February 2012, after which the EPPP will be set for a planned full launch in July 2011.

As part of the new approach, each Academy will be required to undertake a self-assessment of its programmes, staff and facilities against a comprehensive set of criteria. These self-assessments will be audited by an independent standards organisation.  The company tasked with delivering this service to the professional game has been identified, Foot PASS England, and in preparation for the soft launch of the new system within Clubs in March 2012, they have now started the process of recruiting a team of auditors. Foot PASS England is part of Double PASS, a subsidiary of the University of Brussels, which specialises in quality management in sport.

These new auditor roles at Foot PASS England are key to the success of the new system.  Their role represents a significant challenge, and a great opportunity, for anyone who has the skills and ambition to positively impact upon the development of home grown talent in the English game.
