The 2015 Pan and Parapan American Games will take place in the summer of 2015 in Toronto and surrounding communities. The Games will involve over 10,000 athletes/para-athletes and team officials from the Caribbean and the Americas.

 

Working with the Games Organizing Committee, TO2015 and a range of partners, Pan/Parapan American Games Secretariat is accountable for helping to ensure the successful delivery of the Games by providing financial oversight and cross-government planning and coordination for the  implementation of the Games including Games legacy.

 

As a key member of the Pan/Parapan American Games Secretariat senior management team, you will direct the Secretariat's strategic planning, development and implementation of innovative strategies, initiatives and plans which support the vision for the Games delivery and sports programming to ensure the success of the 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games. To achieve this, you must:

  • Direct the Secretariat's planning, development, implementation and evaluation of a vision and strategy pertaining to games delivery and sports programming
  • Work with multi-sector partners (e.g. TO2015, Federal Government, City of Toronto, Pan American Sports Organization, etc.) to negotiate and influence decision-making ensuring collaborative efforts for success, leveraging opportunities to assist in forging business partnerships and developing games strategies and projects
  • Participate on a number of senior level working groups and committees responsible for coordinating transportation, security and emergency requirements and essential services
  • Ensure a framework is established in the Secretariat for the timely identification, research, analysis and assessment of a broad range of complex games delivery issues and trends


What we are looking for:

Senior Leadership:

  • Demonstrated and related experience and skills in strategic leadership and planning in a multi-sport games delivery and sports programming setting including legacy support components
  • A recognized and credible leader who can utilize networking skills and develop relationships with business and government partners in the games/sport sector
  • Experience developing a high performance team in a complex/high profile initiative fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion at the same time developing, coaching and mentoring and monitoring staff to achieve results

 

Games Delivery and Sports Programming:

  • Theoretical knowledge in the development of sound strategies in games delivery and sports programming and experience applying this knowledge on an international level
  • Experience in strategic and operational planning and implementation strategies related to multi-sport games delivery and sports programming projects
  • The ability to effectively manage a wide range of complex and politically sensitive issues involving the resolution of matters related to games delivery, sports programming and other essential services such as emergency management, security and transportation
  • Skilled in project management methodologies and principles to direct multiple, concurrent projects that have far reaching impacts, strict deadlines and highly anticipated expectations both politically and from stakeholders

 

Stakeholder Management:

  • You have excellent stakeholder management and communication skills and can negotiate and build consensus at the same time managing conflicts and competing interests with a variety of partners
  • You are experienced in leveraging opportunities and partnerships where the stakes are high and all stakeholders must meet their obligations to achieve success

 

Political Acuity:

  • Experience managing complex issues including media and public scrutiny, stakeholder criticism or opposition
  • Sound judgment and proven political acuity
  • An understanding of and experience with government decision making and business processes
