Shell’s technical partnership with Ferrari is one of the most renowned and most successful in motorsport. The relationship dates back to 1929 when Shell first sponsored Enzo Ferrari as a racing driver. When Enzo formed Ferrari in 1947, he chose Shell as his partner for fuels and lubricants for both road and race cars. The partnership continues today, with Shell working alongside Ferrari in Formula 1, providing a high speed R&D laboratory for the development of fuels and lubricants for motorists worldwide.

Position summary

The company is currently looking for a Sponsorship Activation Manager, to be based in Switzerland (Baar) and reporting into the Global Sponsorship Manager.

The purpose of the role is to manage the F1 activation programme with Ferrari in order to maximize the overall value for Shell, as well as make it relevant for the Shell brand, Shell V-Power Fuels, Shell Helix Motor Oils and across all businesses and functions.

This is an exciting role, working with some of the best known brands and largest sports properties in the world. This is a challenging role which needs an excellent relationship manager, with strategic thinking skills and a hands-on personality. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing and managing Shell’s activation programme with Ferrari, including attending the majority of the F1 races.
  • Working with Shell’s global businesses, especially Retail Fuels and Lubricants, to develop marketing tools and ideas supporting the product marketing propositions and leveraging the Ferrari sponsorship.
  • Managing the relationship with Shell’s Motorsport Hospitality and PR agencies.
  • Working closely with the Shell Global Solutions (Technology Division) trackside team, to enable the Trackside laboratory to be a showcase for the Shell technical partnership with Ferrari, with hospitality guests and media.
  • Responsible for building relationships with the key stakeholders within the F1 environment e.g. media, motorsport agencies, etc…
  • Measuring the effectiveness and value of the key sponsorship activation activities.


Special Challenges

  • Ensure a consistently high standard of service delivery from the agencies and suppliers.
  • Generate creative concepts to innovate and refresh the tools available to activate the partnership with Ferrari.
  • Maintaining a strong working relationships with the key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Extensive travel: 100-120 day/year


Main competencies and skills required

  • Marketing professional with at least 7 years experience in commercial roles
  • Proven Track record in Marketing Communications including PR, Promotions and Brand Communications
  • Proven track record in managing relationships with key stakeholders (customers, agencies, suppliers)
  • Experience in Sponsorship management and activation
  • Experience in motorsport sponsorship is an advantage but not essential
  • Preferably experienced in working in a global role
  • Fluency in English, while Italian and German are advantages
