Background

Special Olympics International (SOI) is a global non-governmental organization based in Washington, DC that is committed to providing year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and to opening the minds of all people to the gifts and talents of these athletes.

Today, more than 3 million children and adults with intellectual disabilities participate in Special Olympics in over 170 countries and in each of the 50 U.S. States and the District of Columbia. Through training and competition, Special Olympics athletes grow mentally, socially, and spiritually; families are strengthened; and the community at large, both through participation and observation, is united in understanding people with intellectual disabilities in an environment of equality, respect, and acceptance.


Key responsibilities

  • Lead implementation of Project UNIFY in the Asia Pacific region.
  • Lead hiring and supervision of Project UNIFY staff and assist National Programs to do same.
  • Coordinate Project UNIFY efforts by Special Olympics International, Special Olympics Asia Pacific and National Programs.
  • Engage external government and non-government organizations and the education and youth leadership communities in general.
  • Build community partnerships, raise awareness, increase participation and ensure constant engagement of youth and educators.
  • Oversee an Asia Pacific Project UNIFY Advisory Committee on program activities and an Asia Pacific Youth Advisory Committee.
  • Develop committee(s) structure(s), guidelines and operating principles.
  • Oversee and manage grants made in support of Project UNIFY.
  • Establish and maintain oversight system for all deliverables, as well as ongoing and final evaluations. 

 

Skills and Experience Required


Essential:

  • Singapore citizenship or Singapore permanent residency required.
  • Bachelor's degree in education-related field.
  • Understanding of youth activation and engagement principles and techniques.
  • Proven ability to work and collaborate with culturally diverse community groups.
  • Project management experience on large scale, multi-year projects with budgetary, supervisory and evaluation responsibilities.
  • Experience implementing school-based projects, working in conjunction with school leaders, administrators and teachers.


Desired:

  • Graduate study or course work preferred.
  • Experience in designing and implementing educational resources for youth.
  • Familiarity with Special Olympics and its programs a plus.
  • International work experience a plus.
