Background

Baseball Victoria is the recognised peak body for the sport of baseball in the Australian State of Victoria. Baseball Victoria is responsible for leading the state wide delivery of baseball through its affiliated associations and leagues.

The Participation Manager position will provide significant service to promote, organise and develop baseball in our Clubs and Associations/Leagues to enable them to better deliver as baseball's shop front, as well as promoting the sport to the greater community.


Key Responsibilities

Manage the planning, organisation and implementation of all participation and development programs directly controlled by Baseball Victoria with the aim of increasing participation as per the State and National Participation Plans, encompassing each season (i.e. Summer or Winter) and location (i.e. greater Melbourne or regional Victoria).

The Participation Manager will:

• Provide stategic advice and technical expertise to direct Baseball Victoria's Participation Plan and the Development sections within the Strategic Plan;
• Recruit, develop, train and mentor personnel capable of undertaking activities that will increase participation in baseball;
• Provide timely and efficient technical expertise to support other key operations within Baseball Victoria, and act as a representative for baseball in Victoria as directed, especially in the areas of participation and development;
• Support, develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders including: member clubs and associations/leagues, Baseball Victoria committees, the Melbourne Aces, the Australian Baseball League (ABL), the Australian Baseball Federation (ABF), the Victorian Government, vicsport, VicHealth, Local Councils (LGAs), Regional Sports Assemblies, School Sports Victoria, ACHPER, SEDA and other State Sports Associations;
• Ensure development and implementation of evaluation strategy and standards, and planning of annual work plans.

Skills and Experience Required

Qualifications and Experience:   

• Tertiary qualifications in sport, coaching, teaching or related discipline and/or demonstrated similar experience in the sport and recreation industry;
• Baseball coaching/playing experience highly regarded but not essential (see Note below);
• High competence in the use of computers and information technology (i.e. MS Word, Excel, etc).

 

Knowledge and Skills:   

• Strong customer service focus;
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation and organisational skills;
• Understanding of Victorian community sport and school sport systems;
• Capacity to produce and analyse statistics and apply the results to effective business management.
