Background
The Australian Football League (AFL) is Australia’s premier sporting organisation supporting a constantly evolving national competition which has experienced rapid growth over the past 10 years including expansion teams in both the Queensland and NSW market.
 
The Fan Development & Marketing Manager NSW/ACT is an existing role based in Sydney and will report to the AFL Marketing Manager and work closely with the General Manager AFL/NSW, in addition to the Marketing teams of both Sydney Swans and GWS Giants.  They will be responsible for implementing the National Marketing Strategy across NSW, supporting and advising upon independent club initiatives at both he Giants and Swans in addition to supporting and developing the Game Development activities of AFL NSW/ACT.
 
The role will be responsible for developing and overseeing the implementation of a range of marketing and event based projects and initiatives which are ultimately aimed at developing and increasing greater support for the game in the region.  They will assist the staff of the Sydney Swans and the GWS Giants with their marketing and fan development strategies bring a whole of game perspective.

Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the AFL Marketing Manager, primary responsibilities will include:
  • Working with the AFL Marketing team and GM AFL/NSW to develop and implement the overarching AFL brand marketng and fan development strategy in NSW
  • Working with the AFL Marketing team and AFL club staff to develop and implement the marketing strategy for the two AFL clubs based in Sydney
  • Working with the AFL Customer Strategy Manager and AFL club staff to develop and implement the fan development strategy for the two AFL clubs
  • Working with the GM AFL/NSW and AFLNSW staff to develop marketing and fan development strategy for the participation and talent pathway in NSW
  • Management of AFL events, including finals, pre season matches and major events (launches, conferences etc) in Sydney and ACT
  • Managing market intelligence for NSW/ACT market
  • Relationship management with AFL clubs, media and marketing partners, agencies and stadium operators
  • Managing NSW Marketing budget and associated joint marketing budget
  • Help implement communication and media initiatives - NSW

Skills & Experience Required

Essential:

The successful candidate will be a proven Consumer Marketer with a strong awareness of brand and communication strategies (on all platforms). They will have an understanding of customer segmentation and CRM strategies within an alternate sporting body, or a blue chip corporate with a strong consumer focus. A creative thinker with the ability to be 'hands-on' in the delivery of new initiatives, they will have an understanding of how the sports community digests information across all regions and demographics across NSW and the ACT.
While acting for the National Governing body and supporting the over-arching AFL Marketing Strategy it is important that they are able to adapt for and advise upon the unique nature of NSW. It is critical they recognise the different offering and proposition of the Swans and Giants, and the different stage of their evolution within the AFL and also the NSW sporting community.
