Beiersdorf Health Care – General Manager Sports & Professionals

Background

The Beiersdorf Group has a rich history in the global health, personal & skin care industries. With its Head Office situated in Hamburg, Germany, it is an international company with over 150 affiliates worldwide, specialising in skin-care, personal-care products, pressure-sensitive adhesives, activity support, tapes and treatment of muscular pain. The Australian operations began in 1934, and are well known for their brands including; NIVEA, Elastoplast, Elastoplast Sport and Leuko.

The Australian operation is a pioneer in sports medicine products and injury prevention management practices in the Australia and New Zealand markets. In 2018 the Healthcare business intends to create a dedicated Sport’s division to focus exclusively on its Sports properties; Elastoplast Sport and Leuko with the intention to once again pioneer the future of sports medicine in this country and beyond.

The new Sports division will launch in January 2018 and Global Head Office is looking at the Australian business to pilot the growth opportunities that can come from more dedicated investment into its brands, as well as explore and lead the expansion in other international markets. Therefore BHC Australia is looking for a Commercial and Strategic General Manager to lead the new division.

Job Profile

The role will be the operational and strategic lead for the Sports & Professionals division.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute as a member of the BHC Australia senior management team to deliver its strategic business objectives
  • Develop the Professional Sports Strategy for both the domestic ANZ business and  global expansion into international markets
  • Identify new business opportunities
  • Strategically identify and manage new business development opportunities
  • Continuing to drive the ANZ sales, ensuring strong ROI across existing clubs, wholesalers and practitioners
  • Establish & manage the distribution channels for domestic and export sales, with (where applicable) the support of affiliates
  • Leading insight driven innovation in collaboration with the global teams (eg. R&D , Procurement, Regulatory)
  • Collaborate with the global Health Care Consumer Sports teams to leverage synergies
  • Establishing sponsorships and associations that are pro-actively serviced to create assets for, marketing and communications enabling a cascading effect to local consumer / mass business, but equally importantly to drive sales
  • Establish a framework for BHC to play an industry leading role in sports medicine practices and product education

The Candidate

The successful candidate will have a Sales & Commercial pedigree of the highest calibre. They will bring significant experience in the sport industry, with a good sense of sporting goods, apparel, fashion or consumer goods business in Australia and beyond. It is critical they have a network across Governing Bodies and Professional Clubs/Teams. They will demonstrate a track record in Sales and negotiations, and will likely have operated across APAC and have demonstrable experience of opening new markets, combined with a sound understanding of marketing and building brands..

The successful candidate will also demonstrate a strong understanding of the consumer (ie. Professional athletes), and have a thorough understanding of product development. As a strategic head of the business they will be an ‘all-rounder’, with a comprehensive knowledge of the distribution channels, logistics and 3rd party manufacturing.

This is a high-level and strategic role in what is a greenfield site, so it is important the candidate can maintain a clear idea of long-term strategy, but also recognise they will be required to ‘roll up their sleeves’ in delivery. The person must be a proven leader and motivator, who can get the best out of teams. It is important that the successful candidate is highly commercial and has strong business acumen for identifying and capitalising on new opportunities and revenue streams. The candidate will bring strong leadership and influencing skills in order to successfully collaborate with affiliates and global teams.
