Leeds United are a professional football club based in West Yorkshire whose home ground is Elland Road. They are an ambitious Championship club who under new ownership and guidance are looking to build on previous successes both on and off the field.

The Role

The Major Events Business Development Manager will be instrumental in identifying new opportunities at Leeds United, Elland Road Stadium and establishing key targeted business for the Club during a period of growth. They will additionally develop and deliver partnerships. They will manage a sales function, forecast growth, securing additional major  events and the return on investment for commercial venue hire on a non-match day.


  • Responsible for the Stadium’s major events business away from Leeds United fixtures.
  • Seeking new business opportunities, driving company marketing activities in conjunction with the wider business.
  • Closing high yield business efficiently, focusing on low volume, high revenue to meet and exceed individual, team and company financial targets.
  • Maintaining a network of contacts, partners and industry bodies that enhances opportunities for new and repeat business, along with opportunities to sharing best practise.
  • Identifying appropriate situations to up-sell the venue’s products to increase overall yields.
  • Identifying key agencies, organisations and events that should be targeted.
  • Building detailed knowledge and trends of the audiences these target clients want to reach and cross-profile against existing audiences.
  • Identifying and attending networking events and industry related conferences.
  • Utilise market knowledge to increase customer focus.
  • Continuous and energetic creativity and innovation.
  • Drive, energy and persistence for team development and business growth.
  • Knowledge of the business.
  • Results focus and profit delivery, ensuring all targets are achieved.
  • P&L ownership and reporting for the Stadium major events business unit

Qualifications & Skills

  • Significant proactive sales experience in a major events environment
  • Be driven and motivated under pressure
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Target driven and ambitious
  • Experienced in tracking return on investment
  • Experienced managing a budget
  • Customer focussed and a good team player
  • Empathetic and solutions focussed
  • Solid understanding of marketing for events/venues
