Business Development Manager – WRU
Reporting to Head of Sales and Marketing, the position will lead all Partnership and Sponsorship opportunities for the Group.
The successful candidate will be a senior manager in the Sales & Marketing team responsible for researching, introducing and successfully contracting potential sponsors, suppliers and business partners for varying activities the WRU Group undertakes. The primary focus will be to deliver against Sponsorship targets, however varying opportunities such as International and oversees strategic partnerships will form part of the role.

Focus on acquiring top level national and international sponsors/partners for WRU all the way down to delivering one-off match day sales
Develop and foster relationships with key clients in the market
Development of pipeline of potential partners to ensure continued development of the WRU partnership programme
Refinement of current partner model to ensure delivering maximum value for WRU and partners
Explore and develop partners within key overseas markets
Support business development activities across various other products in the Group
Lead on development of sales materials and collateral
Focus on securing long term partners for the game of Rugby across the whole of Wales from the community game to the elite level
Open previously untapped sponsorship prospects
Obtain and interpret market intelligence/research to be able to develop sales tools and campaigns
Acquisition of new sponsorship clients, contract negotiations/renewals, client relationships
Assist in renewals of partners across all areas of the WRU Group
Prepare weekly sales activity planner and work-in-progress documentation.
Prepare and present a quarterly report for management of sales / market activity
Attend weekly / monthly or as directed sales and business meetings
Management of B2B database and lead generation
Qualifications & Skills
Possess a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Business Development role
Proven track record of developing relationships with key decision makers
Experience in selling/contracting International partners
Understanding and experience in rights management
Track record of selling multi-million pound partnerships
Understanding of International markets
Rights holder/Governing body experience desirable but not essential
Self-motivated, proactive and driven to achieve results
Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and organisational skills
Rugby knowledge and/or affinity to the sport
Strong computer skills including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced atmosphere
Strong interpersonal skills and relationship management
The ability to work on their own initiative, effectively both as an individual and as part of a team
Excited by challenges and motivated to find solutions that work for all parties
Educated to degree level
Valid UK driving licence is required
