Tennis is one of the largest participation sports in Australia, with over 330,000 connected participants in Victoria.  Tennis Victoria (TV) is a service delivery organisation and the representative body of all affiliated clubs, centres, associations, regions and their members throughout Victoria.  As the central administrative body of tennis in Victoria, it is TV’s role to manage, coordinate, promote, and unify the diverse facets of the sport through a strong proactive customer service culture, with a vision of more people playing tennis, more often, for life.

Reporting to the President and Board of Tennis Victoria, the Chief Executive Officer will build, motivate and manage a service and membership focused organisation, through the effective leadership of a committed team and collaboration with the community to deliver on a strategy and vision. The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the overall direction and management of Tennis Victoria through staff and volunteers, and will drive the strategic outcomes and operational aspects of the business.

This role will be well supported through the guidance and direction of the nine-member Board of Tennis Victoria.

Key Responsibilities


Working with the Board, develop and deliver clear strategic direction for the organisation.

Engage with key stakeholders and staff to effectively execute the strategic outcomes for the sport, annually reviewing and refining


Build and maintain close working relationships with Tennis Australia and Member Associations, and implement and deliver national priorities in Victoria that benefit affiliated clubs and helps grow participation.

Maintain strong relationships and open dialogue with key stakeholders such as Sport and Recreation Victoria, VicSport, VicHealth and relevant Local Councils & Government to advance the interest of tennis.

People Leadership

Lead Tennis Victoria in a manner that ensures achievement of short and long-term business objectives.

Monitor and evaluate the performance of the Senior Leadership Team (5 x General Managers), the efficiency of procedures and establish measurable performance objectives within the team


Responsible for developing and improving all functions of the company within the established policy and in accordance with the authority delegated by the Board of Directors.

Sound business operations will be underpinned by strong people and stakeholder management strategies

Financial and Risk Management

Full accountability in the development of annual budgets and monitoring the ongoing financial health of the organisation, ensuring full transparency at every point.

Drive a risk management culture within the team, mitigating and controlling business risks as well as unlocking potential opportunities through this process.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Accomplished and proven experience with a sporting affinity, ready to meet the challenges facing Tennis Victoria.
  • Outstanding business leadership and team development skills, with a demonstrated ability to develop, support and be part of a team of high performing individuals within challenging and high pressure environments.
  • A solid track record of business and market development, defining a strategic plan, and delivery against agreed strategic objectives.
  • Experience within complex stakeholder organisations with an empathy for voluntary participation.
  • Business acumen/commercial astuteness with a proven track record in achieving successful commercial outcomes.
  • Relevant experience and relationships with appropriate Government departments will be highly regarded.
  • Relationship development & management skills in articulating complex concepts and the ability to influence and persuade.
  • Capability to present and interact effectively with professionals, and demonstrated public platform skills.
  • A solid understanding of contemporary corporate governance to the organisation.
  • An ability to develop and nurture sound and effective relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Superior communication skills and the ability to be equally adept at being hands on and strategic in approach.
  • Disciplined/structure approach, innately well-organised and disciplined, with effective utilisation of time and delivery of quality outcomes.
  • A solid understanding of corporate governance, with proven experience ideally in member-based organisations.
  • Finance and risk management acumen in developing, managing and adhering to budgets. Responsibility for future growth and development of the business, with prudent risk management.
  • An understanding or ability to work in a state body which fits under the banner of a national body.
  • A passion for tennis, either as player or spectator.


  • Tertiary qualifications at a post graduate level (preferred) in a related area of management.
