Chief Executive Officer – Winter Games NZ

Chief Executive Officer – Winter Games NZ

The Audi quattro Winter Games NZ is an elite multi-snow and ice sports event held over two weeks in Central Otago, New Zealand. The recent Games attracted a record entry of 846 competitors from 42 countries and it is now firmly established as the Southern Hemisphere’s premier winter snow sports event.

It is unique in New Zealand sport and is the result of a Government initiative in 2006 to develop a major recurring international event for the benefit of all New Zealand. The 2017 Winter Games NZ was the tenth year of that original business plan and the fifth edition of the Games.

Run by a Charitable Trust, the Winter Games NZ’s vision is to be recognised internationally as one of the world’s premier snow sports events.

The Games point of difference is its multi-sport component. No other event in the world combines so many winter sports into the one event at World Cup or Continental Cup level.

  • The Games is first and foremost an elite, international winter sports event.
  • The inclusion of adaptive skiers and snowboarders alongside able-bodied skiers and snowboarders is a unique feature of the Games.
  • Wanaka, Queenstown and Naseby community buy-in and involvement is essential.
  • New Zealand flavour is a point of difference.
  • New Zealand has an international competitive advantage as the premier destination for snow sports during the northern hemisphere’s off-season.
  • No other event, outside the Winter Olympics, has the breadth and depth of competition that the Winter Games NZ has.
  • We can expect at least 20 competitors at this year’s Games will go on and podium in February’s Winter Olympics in Korea.

Now the Games are poised to go annual from 2018.
