Commercial Director – Europe

The Commercial Director, Europe is the lead, front-line sales and brand development executive across the territories of Europe, representing a global sports brand. S/he will be responsible for growing brand royalty revenue across the markets of Europe through the proactive management of existing and prospective licensees and retailers. The primary objective of the role is to build the business through organic growth over the next 5 years. The ideal candidate will have excellent business development, presentation, selling and negotiation skills.

The core job of the Commercial Director is to develop and execute a comprehensive sales strategy to maximize the exposure of the brand across Europe and to capture the full market potential for royalty income.

  • Achieve strong revenue growth through consistent expansion of new business/licensing opportunities
  • Work with existing licensees to expand net sales performance, aligning to global marketing initiatives
  • Understand assigned markets to ensure all product needs are met and all categories maximised, through both central and local sourcing, to ensure trading is above minimum guarantees
  • Collaborate closely with the Product team to ensure central collections are relevant and drive the SMU process to support local product requirements
  • Qualify, develop and manage a robust sales pipeline to meet and exceed quarterly and annual goals
  • Create country-specific sales and development strategies
  • Build powerful, long-term licensing partnerships to maximize royalty revenue
  • Interface with licensees to ensure timely submission of sales reports and royalty payments
  • Develop and maintain up-to-date analyses of retail-wholesaler-manufacturers dynamics, key consumer/retail trends and licensee sales activity across the assigned territories
  • Become the go-to market expert inside the company for all assigned territories

Candidate must be a highly motivated and energetic sales and brand management professional who thrives in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment. A successful candidate will have an established track-record of managing a sales pipeline, developing relationships at multiple levels across a client’s business and securing sales that consistently exceed budgets.

S/he should have the knowledge and ability to bring new customers into the business across markets, to sell brands across categories and to work with partners to maximize their sales. Ideally, the candidate has success stories of actively applying creative problem solving skills in real-time negotiations to get to “yes”. The candidate must have strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to successfully work independently and in a team environment, both locally and at distance.

Preferred candidates will have experience in the following areas:

  • Meeting and exceeding sales/revenue targets
  • Building and managing long-term strategic relationships especially in the sports/apparel/licensing industries
  • Pursuing sales opportunities through both direct and indirect channels
  • Managing brand licensing activity
  • Leveraging sales analytics tools to build new and existing business
  • Achieving results across multiple geographic territories, cultures and languages
  • Working effectively with senior management and be able to clearly define, communicate and deliver upon strategic goals
  • Presenting/communicating in both small and large groups; including the ability to clearly communicate business and technical concepts
