Country Managing Director – Labosport

About the company

Labosport is a leading group of independent laboratories and institutes dedicated to sports surfaces testing and certification.

With 110 employees in 13 countries, the Group offers a wide portfolio of test methods as well as consultancy services for natural turf and synthetic sport surfaces. The Group draws on the latest developments in the field of agronomy, engineering, and chemical analyses.

Labosport UK is one of the main subsidiaries of the Group. Historically specialised in artificial turf testing, the company has successfully developed new areas of services such as field design & consultancy, Goal Line Technology testing and VAR. It plays a pivotal role for the Group for the relationships with International and National Governing Bodies.

Overall job purpose

The Managing Director is a Director level role with delegated authority, responsible for delivering the overall strategic plan for the Country, as defined and validated regularly with Labosport Group CEO, in particular, during budget reviews.

This strategy should comply with the main orientations given by the Group Committee and can be summarised along the following excerpts:

  • Labosport, the world leader in sport surfaces and equipment certification, aims to be the world leading technical expert in sports surfaces and floorings, delivering a “high tech” service globally to the sports industry and all those involved in the realisation of sports infrastructures.
  • The service offer of the Group is built along 4 dimensions:
  1. Technical assistance and advisory services,
  2. Technical certification,
  3. Audit & diagnosis,
  4. Education (Labosport Education & Training).
  • Labosport want to be present on all types of surfaces (natural, hybrid, artificial) and all sports. Each subsidiary has to progressively develop the corresponding expertise with support of the Group.

Key responsibilities and assignments

Jointly with the Group CEO:

Strategy

  • Develop the vision for the Country on the Territory, with timely and proper update. Is responsible to implement the business plan and budget for the year.
  • Organises the Board of Directors meetings once a year for validation of financial accounts.
  • Participates to and is a member of the Group Committee.
  • Participates to Group projects (ex: R&D projects, ScorePlay)

Organises and delegates key functions of the company:

  • Sales & Marketing,
  • Operations, Laboratories and site testing,
  • Purchases
  • Finances and Cash management

In particular, the MD:

Account management

  • Is responsible for key accounts (key federations, key architects, new markets) and the development of profitable turnover
  • Follows group rules for pricing and discounts
  • Is responsible for the production on time and in quality of testing reports,
  • Is responsible to maintain and develop certification of technicians

Legal, Internal Control and Quality

  • Coordinates legal aspects of the company with the accountant
  • Maintains adequate controls (signatures, validation, capex authorisation) in line with his Power of Attorney.
  • Ensures the company compliance with laws and regulations and is responsible for internal control.
  • Ensures that the company follows the Group operating procedures or guidelines for all tests and all technicians,
  • Maintains proper professional insurance for the company

Finance/Accounting:

  • Prepares yearly financial accounts with the accountant firm in a timely manner, organises accounts reviews, explains year-on-year variations and proposes optimisations.
  • Report monthly to the Group the company financial indicators (turnover, orders, profit, receivables and cash) versus previous year and budget, as well as key events for the month.
  • Proposes yearly budget, proposes investments, and is responsible for budget execution,
  • Manages the treasury of the company and receivables

Human Resources:

  • Develops and animates the HR processes for their team (feedbacks, annual performance reviews , salary review, careers, etc.).
  • Adapts the organisation according to needs.
  • Ensure to maintain level of competencies of technicians (eg. ISO 17025 requirement, trainings)

Lobbying & Standards:

  • Represents the company at trade associations
  • Represents the company to major National Governing Bodies and International Federations of Sport in order to develop standards and service offer with them
  • Network with sport architects and installers, stadium owners, groundkeepers, partners, clients, administrations, etc.
  • Promotes the new test methods and innovation developed by the Group on his Territory
  • Participates to events and fairs to represent the knowledge and brand of Labosport.
  • Contributes to the development of performance standards for sport surfaces on the Territory

  • Company Turnover and leadership position
  • Company EBITDA and EBIT margin
  • Scope of services proposed and development of new markets (4 pillars on all surfaces and sports)
  • Team retention and expertise

Key working relationships

Group CEO, peer MDs, Group Head of functions, direct reports, customers, communities, architects, installers, sports federations, National norm committees, Professional Sportsturf Design MD, and Sport Universities.
