Position Description – Finance Manager

General Accountability

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the objective of the Finance Manager role is to efficiently manage and coordinate the entire scope of financial control, compliance and governance. This includes the general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, and payroll. Secondly, the provision of accurate and timely financial reporting to inform decisions around commitment of funds moving through the program.

Role and responsibilities

The role will have the following key responsibilities:

Financial Management:

  • Manage the general ledger, including preparation of the monthly management accounts and various monthly general ledger reconciliations, along with monthly business activity statements
  • Oversee payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable functions
  • Lead monthly reporting and forecast process program-wide acting as business partner to the Functional Areas
  • Ensure suitable cash forecasting and reporting systems and processes are in place to optimise the business’s cash position
  • Assist in the management of procurement and contract management process, including tender preparation
  • Lead the annual external audit process including preparation of financial statements
  • Monitor the performance of the business to meet the required financial targets and implement interventions
  • Provide reports, analysis and recommendations to management on results against plan to enable effective decision-making by management
  • Manage the due-diligence process and conduct financial due diligence, and ensure legal requirements are met and liabilities identified
  • Advise on the proper allocation of resources

Compliance:

  • Ensure internal compliance against policies and guidelines, and enhance self-audit/evaluation tool
  • Ensure all tax, accounting and business risks are identified and evaluated
  • Ensure business risks are mitigated as appropriate and that there are effective controls and processes to manage the risk
  • Ensure that appropriate financial regulations and controls are in place and respected

Experience & Educational Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualifications in finance, accounting or other such relevant specialist area of knowledge
  • Current member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA) or CPA Australia

Essential:

  • Demonstrated experience working within major events or Games environment
  • Demonstrated experience in managing finances in a program environment with significant budgets
  • Understanding of NFP regulatory frameworks, reporting requirements and demonstrated ability to support the CFO, Board and committee workings
  • Demonstrated ability to manage all statutory accounting requirements of a business
  • Strong working knowledge of the Australian Accounting Standards (AASB)
  • Experience in managing financial and accounting transactions to meet AIMG’s short and long term plans
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Understanding the Invictus Games Stakeholder environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to the Invictus Games Movement
