The Premier League is looking to recruit a Games Programme Manager to lead on the delivery of the of the Foundation Phase and Youth Development Phase Games Programme competitions, to support their mission of developing more and better Home Grown Players capable of playing in the Premier League.

The Games Programme Manager will work closely with the Head of Youth Operations to ensure the effective delivery of the programme whilst also looking to enhance and develop the events offered and delivered to Clubs season after season.

This role will sit in the Football Development Department, within the function of Youth Operations. The Youth Operations, Education, Coaching, Elite Performance, Safeguarding and Player Care teams work to ensure players are developed holistically, so they become well-rounded individuals on and off the pitch.

The Youth Operations function is responsible for the Games Programme which is delivered to Premier League Category 1 and 2 Academies. Each season the Games Programme team organise more than 10,000 matches, along with regional, national and international tournaments and festivals; each designed to meet players’ changing needs at every stage of their development. This role will focus on the events involving U9-U16 players.

The Role

  • To be responsible for the management of the logistical arrangements required for the effective delivery of events (festivals, tournaments, matches) within the Foundation and Youth Development Phase
  • To ensure the effective organisation and delivery of national and international youth development Games Programme events (to include festival and tournaments)
  • To lead the implementation of specific Games Programme events within the Foundation and Youth Development Phases (on location)
  • Ensure venue risk assessments are completed prior to event usage, producing comprehensive risk assessment documentation
  • Work collaboratively with other functions within the department such as Education, Elite Performance, Player Care, Coaching to ensure the events delivered support the technical and holistic development of players
  • Produce pre-event tournament documentation; information packs for Club (stakeholder) use
  • To effectively deploy staffing resources to the event programme to ensure effective delivery
  • To provide budgetary control for those events within the Foundation and Youth Development Phase Games Programme; providing regular reports to the Head of Youth Operations
  • To coordinate Club forum meetings when required
  • To contribute to the construction of Games Programme season schedules and fixture production, disseminating literature to Clubs when required
  • From time to time undertake other duties as necessary to meet the needs of the Premier League Youth Development Department

Requirements

  • Extensive project management/event related experience
  • Relevant experience of working in an Academy or equivalent sporting organisation
  • Experience of writing, developing and implementing large scale event plans (including staffing provision, training and on-site management)
  • Strong logistical and operational skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • High level communication, written and organisational skills
  • High level emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to successfully manage relationships with a number of internal and external stakeholders
  • Passion for football
  • A self-starter who works off the back of their own initiative
  • Ability to lead and facilitate meetings
  • An awareness of the protocols required in relation to safeguarding children at events
  • DBS clearance – to be obtained via Premier League, prior to job

Nice-to-haves 

  • Experience of the Operations function of an Academy
  • Experience in the Administration of elite football competitions
  • Understanding of the Academy System and the EPPP
  • Understanding of the principles of youth development in a football environment
  • Experience of working in an elite youth development environment
