The Role

The General Manager Footwear & Technical Equipment Division is ultimately responsible for the strategic and operational direction of the Footwear & Technical Equipment team covering product creation (product management, design, and product development), sourcing, QC, and operations.

You will be working closely with the leaders of each brand (Salewa, Dynafit and Wild Country) to interpret the brand strategic direction into Footwear & Technical Equipment products, which will resonate in the market place and achieve the brands’ positioning and financial objectives. The responsibility spans over a series of product categories such as footwear (hard and soft), equipment (tents, sleeping bags, back packs) and technical hardware (climbing gear and technical accessories).

You will be based in Montebelluna, Italy and report to the Chief Executive Officer.


  • Develop and drive a strategic plan and approach for FW & TE, which addresses the needs of the brands on an innovation, brand positioning, and commercial level
  • Manage the vertical P&L for the footwear & equipment business.
  • Strategically lead the Division aligning the strategy with each brand
  • Drive and manage the product development process – from the brand briefing to concept development to prototyping and industrialization
  • Manage product development investment plans
  • Manage product line development with a focus on effective merchandising and SKU efficiency
  • Drive product development in a consumer-centric way drawing on fact-based consumer and market research
  • Work with sales and marketing to create technical product information and bring to life well merchandised brand stories
  • Establish a strong innovation road map and structure to continually bring next-level, consumer-relevant product to market
  • Build a first-class team to achieve the set goals and objectives and which can compete with the market benchmarks
  • Develop and manage strategic relationships with core vendors and suppliers
  • Negotiate vendor agreements
  • Develop and manage a robust, flexible, and cost-effective supply chain with a holistic focus on quality, margins and service for the different product categories
  • Execute against corporate CSR (corporate social responsibility) goals including managing both environmental and social objectives
  • Achieve established revenue, margin, and operational goals and targets

Experience and Skills

  • 10+ years of experience in fashion/outdoor sports industry in an equivalent position
  • Degree in Economics, Management or equivalent
  • Ability to understand global markets and identify current industry trends
  • Strong vision on the footwear and technical equipment market
  • Knowledge of product creation processes
  • Knowledge of supply chain process
  • Proven experience building an innovation team and process resulting in market-relevant innovations
  • Proven leadership practice of large teams with inspiring, motivating, charismatic management style
  • Ability to successfully lead transversal projects
  • Product sensitivity and knowledge of footwear product construction.
  • Experience in managing a wide range of strategic partners and manufacturers
  • Outstanding leadership skills, someone who demonstrates passion and inspires others
  • Strategic planning capability
  • Strong oral and written communication and negotiation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Well-developed organizational skills
  • Familiarity with managing budgets
  • Passion for outdoor sports and value-driven mindset
  • Fluency in English and Italian. Fluency in additional languages would be advantageous.
