Moonee Valley Racing Club (MVRC) is one of Australia’s most progressive and innovative Racing Clubs and multi-purpose entertainment venues and home of the prestigious Cox Plate, where Winx will be aiming to win her fourth title in October 2018.

In addition, MVRC holds 20+ race days a year, including their Ladbrokes Friday Night Lights events and over 300 non-race day, community and corporate events.

The GM, Marketing & Communications will report to the Chief Executive Officer, and is responsible for leading and implementing marketing strategies to ensure sustained success, branding and awareness of the Club, its events and an increase and retention of fans and members.

The role will cover all aspects of the MVRC business, including Racing, Hospitality, Gaming and the Master Plan as MVRC undertakes a major redevelopment project which includes the building of residential apartments overlooking the track.  The long term vision of the redevelopment will see a new race track, grandstands, a residential and retail precinct. This will create enormous commercial opportunities and redefine the Club’s position and offerings to its Members and Fans.

The role responsibilities will include the construction of annual Marketing and Communications Strategic Plans for:

  • Racing – in conjunction with the GM Racing Operations
  • Hospitality – in conjunction with the GM Hospitality
  • Gaming – in conjunction with GM Gaming
  • Membership (including Dining) – in conjunction with the GM Valley
  • Community – in conjunction with GM Valley
  • Master Plan – in conjunction with Head of Development
  • Media – in conjunction with the Chief Executive
  • Lead and manage the Marketing and Communications teams to ensure that the Club’s and departmental goals and objectives are achieved.
  • To work with the Marketing Sub-Committee to develop strategy and deliver marketing and communications activities in line with the Club’s strategic goals.
  • Establish, maintain and monitor Marketing and Communications departmental KPI model with results to be published quarterly and annually.
  • As a member of the Senior Management team, contribute to the creation and development of Club-wide strategy, direction and culture.
  • Represent the Club in a communications role to ensure the positive brand of the Club is articulated to the racing industry and public.
  • Promote and represent the Club as a market leader in the conceptualisation, development and implementation of innovative and sustainable projects.
  • Professionally manage and develop relationships with all key stakeholders – both internal and external.
  • The incumbent will demonstrate commitment to MVRC’s Values which are R.A.C.E.- Respect, Accountability, Community, Experience and Safety First.
  • Responsible for the implementation and management of the Club’s OH & S Policy, for the safety and health of staff reporting.
  • Successful completion and management of all employees of MVRC employee induction, compliance training the recruitment of suitably qualified staff for the Marketing and Communications Department.

Knowledge/Skills Required

To effectively perform in the role, the position holder must have the following skills, experience and qualifications:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in strategic marketing discipline.
  • Ability to build organisational reputation and delivery of innovative products into a large and diverse market, through strategic marketing activities.
  • Experience in managing and leading a large team in a marketing function.
  • Possess a strong customer focused approach.
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategic plans and budgets.
  • Ability to prioritise departmental activities, and establish and implement an annual business cycle to ensure that deadlines are achieved.
  • High level of negotiation, influencing and stakeholder management skills in order to positively and successfully achieve outcomes.
  • Ability to set a high standard for the delivery of all output required through the marketing department. Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills, to effectively manage staff and stakeholder plans, goals and objectives to relevant parties.
  • Effective use of relevant computer software applications including CRM (Microsoft Dynamics) PeopleStreme, Microsoft Office applications etc.
  • An interest and understanding of the thoroughbred racing industry is preferred.
