Head of Business Unit – Apparel – Mammut Sports Group

The key task of the Head of Business Unit – Apparel is to develop and implement the strategy of the product group in alignment with Mammut’s corporate strategy. Furthermore, the role is responsible for the conception and development of apparel, applying in-depth market knowledge and balancing stakeholder value. The future Head of Business Unit – Apparel will work in close collaboration with other departments, specifically marketing and communications, optimize processes and have P&L responsibility for their business unit. The Head of Business Unit – Apparel receives direct reports from the Head of PM, Head of Design, Head of Development, Project & Process Manager and overall lead a team of 35 people. They report to the Chief Creative Officer and represent the abbey.
Development and implementation of the apparel strategy, in alignment with the corporate strategy
Preparation of the assortment and product conception by means of framework plans, market and competition analyses, sales and customer feedback, area requirements as well as analysis of sales and sales volumes
Elaboration and monitoring of the development, relevant process steps and timelines with consideration of the development status of decisive milestones
Profit & Loss responsibility for the business unit
Close co-operation with the department Product Design & Innovation to procure of the innovative capacity and the overall design coordination
Coordination with other marketing areas regarding key topics, design – and colour concepts, reports and communication
Work closely with the procurement, selection of producers, negotiations of prices and purchase conditions as well as the ordering process
Ensure product development does not exceed target prices and meet requirements
Develop the international marketing plan and concepts together with the product management team and the marketing & communications department through briefings for the communications plan (sell-in / sell-out). Carry responsibility for both, the concepts and their implementation
Support the PMs on important tasks, set priorities correctly to drive efficiency and
Presentation of products, leading sales presentations and training for apparel related topics
Development of country-specific marketing concepts together with the regional category managers
Cultivation and attending to the network of contacts, to selected clients and opinion leaders.
Ensure the quality level demanded by Mammut and coordinate necessary measures in the event of unexpected quality- and delivery
Represent the interests of their Business Unit at various meetings and events
Provide routine reports to the Chief Creative Officer and the Group Management on specific topics
Continuous revision of the organization and processes
Qualifications & Skills
The successful candidate is an expert within sports apparel with experience in product management, development and design. Proficient in both English and German, they are a strategic thinker and work with structure in their field of passion: sports. The candidate has strong leadership experience and is comfortable in an international business environment when convincing stakeholders with their extraverted personality and excellent communication skills.
Higher degree of business Administration (FH/UNI) with further training in textile industry or textile specialist education with additional business education
6-8 years of experience in the field of product management, ideally in the field of sportswear with experience in collection design and creation of all relevant areas such as Project Management, development, design and editing
In-depth knowledge of sports – and outdoor markets, its trends and opportunities
A strong communication team leader, the role requires high leadership experience and a collaborative leadership ideology
Of an extraverted personality, the ideal candidate is sociable, takes initiative and shows both flexibility and resilience
Ability to quickly structure complex situations and efficiently develop objectives and solutions
Exceptional skills for team development with the ability to unite Mammut’s peopl
With strong presentation skills the candidate inspires the team and is a convincing ambassador of Mammut to all stakeholders
High level of assertiveness, good organizer and coordinator
Personal connection and passion for outdoor sports, experience in mountain sports is an asset
Clear vision with an eye for design and concepts
Experience in an international business environment is seen as an asset
Ability to achieve results in a high-pressure environment
Excellent IT skills in MS Office, Outlook, databases
Outstanding leadership skills, demonstrating passion to inspires others
Excellent interpersonal skills
Familiarity with managing budgets
Proficiency in English and German. Fluency in additional language(s) are an asset
