Head of Commercial

Head of Commercial – Leyton Orient FC

The Club is seeking a self-motivated Head of Commercial to play a leading role in reaching and exceeding the Club’s commercial sales targets for matchday and non-matchday activity. This role will be focused on the generation of new business as well as retention and growth – therefore the Club are only considering applicants with a genuinely successful background in the generation of convertible sales leads.

Under a recent change of ownership the Club has exciting plans to reach these objectives and to create a better, community Club.

The Role

  • To play the leading role in the creation of new business sales from new clients for matchday and non-matchday activity and inventory
  • To equally plan the leading role in the retention and growth of existing clients, partners and sponsors
  • To work alongside other members of the Club to deliver on sponsorship and partnership agreements
  • To work alongside other members of the Club to promote the Club’s commercial and hospitality offerings


  • To work alongside others in developing the Club’s new business strategy and deliverables
  • To make use of a variety of tools including but not limited to networking, LinkedIn, internet searching, use of external databases and visits to local businesses
  • To actively and regularly engage with the business community of Leyton, E10 and East London
  • To provide regular networking opportunities for the Club’s sponsors, partners and locally based companies
  • To achieve outbound calling volumes, with quality, in-line with set expectations
  • To identify and engage with fans who own businesses or are senior decision makers
  • To play a leading role in setting up regular networking opportunities with the Club’s much valued sponsors
  • To make full use of various locally held networking events and business groups
  • To work closely with the Club’s Marketing and Communication departments in providing professional printed and digital assets to promote the Club to potential new clients / hospitality guests
  • Play a leading role in meeting, greeting and hosting our hospitality guests and to network with individuals / fans / sponsors / partners
  • Liaison with other team members to ensure we are listed on all event / meeting agencies
  • To attend relevant and local exhibitions to promote the Club’s commercial offering
  • Ensuring the Club’s commercial database is kept current and in line with new GDPR
  • Provide regular and detailed reports to the CEO mapping progress and sales pipelines
  • To play a leading role in the delivery of sponsorship and partnership agreements
  • To line manage a Sales Executive in helping achieve their targets and responsibilities and to play the leading role in their development

Qualifications & Skills

  • A minimum of five year’s new business sales experience with proven successful sales track record
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Effective and articulate, both in writing and by the spoken word
  • Straight talking, honest, a strong self-starter a good team player
  • Drive and determination (gets things done)
  • Flexible and able to handle multiple tasks
  • Enthusiastic and persuasive
  • A genuine team player
  • A knowledge of football
  • Excellent management skills
