Head of Sales, China

Background

The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) is the governing body for all international table tennis associations. The role of the ITTF includes overseeing rules and regulations, and seeking technological improvement for the sport of table tennis. The ITTF is responsible for the organization of numerous international competitions, including the World Table Tennis Championships that has taken place since 1926.

Since 2003, TMS International has been the commercial partner of the ITTF, handling all the commercial rights of the ITTF, including Media and Sponsorship. In November 2016, the ITTF) and TMS International announced that they would be ending their exclusive commercial and marketing partnership on 31 December 2016. ITTF has since taken all rights in-house to further commercialise on a global level.

In January 2017, the ITTF agreed to a four-year sponsorship and strategic partnership deal with Seamaster for the ITTF World Tour. Seamaster – a Chinese shipping company, is no stranger to table tennis sponsorship, previously being the title sponsor of the 2016 ITTF Women’s World Cup, 2016 ITTF World Tour Grand Finals, and the 2016 ITTF Star Awards.

The Seamaster 2017 ITTF World Tour, which has already received a branding facelift, includes 12 events across the world in 2017 plus a World Tour Grand Finals, which only the top 16 male and female competitors from the 12 World Tour events qualify for.

Under this global partnership, ITTF is committed to hiring a key person on the ground in China who will be seeking sponsors predominantly for the World Tour, as well as securing additional sponsorships and revenue opportunities across the whole suite of available ITTF commercial rights.

Key Responsibilities

Based in China and reporting to the Marketing and Commercial Director, the Head of Sales China will have specific responsibilities around revenue generation and development of strong business relationships. In particular:

  • Seek sponsorship sales in China with a main focus on the ITTF World Tour, while also including the ITTF World Championships, World Cups and other ITTF properties
  • Develop relationship with key business partners in China
  • Assist the ITTF with developing a strong working relationship with the Chinese Table Tennis Federation in relation to Marketing and Promotion.
  • Source for new business opportunities in China to help further commercialize and monetize ITTF properties
  • Assist to service ITTF’s China- based clients
  • Assist with all aspects of ITTF -related events held in China
  • Work closely with the ITTF Marketing & Commercial Department in Singapore on all facets of its Marketing and Commercial Strategy

Skills & Experience Required

The ideal candidate should have or be:

  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in a sales, marketing, business development role in sports / sports media
  • A strong understanding of brand and communications and the role of sponsorship in the marketing mix
  • Ideally a strong professional network within the sports sponsorship industry
  • Excellent inter-personal skills, advanced communication and presenting capabilities
  • Highly independent, performance-driven, and comfortable with working in a dynamic global environment
