Six Day Cycling Series

Overview

Headquartered in London, Madison Sports Group was founded in 2013 and since that time has been active in organising a total of 12 Six Day events in London, Berlin, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Copenhagen and Mallorca. The global team has extensive experience in planning and delivering some of the world’s largest sporting properties including the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games, Manchester City FC, Tottenham Hotspur FC, Powerboat P1 and numerous UCI events.

Six Day is a highly differentiated, must see proposition in professional cycling, combining world class sport with electric entertainment.  It has a rich heritage; invented in the UK in 1878 and grew quickly to become the largest spectator sport in the US in the 1920’s, packing out iconic venues such as Madison Square Garden.  Post War, the sport was a big draw in Europe, involving all the greats of cycling, notably Eddy Merckx.

The 2017/18 Six Day Series consists of events in London, Berlin, Copenhagen and culminates in an exciting Finale in Mallorca. The Series will expand in the 2018/19 season to include at least two events in Australia and ultimately it is set to grow globally to a total of 20+ events by 2022/23 season.

Due to this expansion there is a requirement to hire a General Manager to lead the Australian operations.

The role

The General Manager will be responsible for the management the Asia Pacific market and will be expected to deliver events to the same world class standard as the company delivers elsewhere.

The General Manager will begin by leveraging the company’s capital and existing expertise and will ultimately build a high performing team and business in the region.

 The responsibilities

  • To deliver best in class track cycling events.
  • Identify, lead, manage and develop the operational, sales & marketing staff in Australia.
  • P&L responsibilities for the Australian and potentially Asia-Pacific events.
  • Help with identifying appropriate new events and jointly negotiating any necessary contracts.
  • Securing and managing local third party vendors and contractors.
  • Monitoring and reporting event satisfaction from a consumer, corporate (partner) and broadcast perspective.
  • Building a strong relationship with Cycling Australia including government stakeholders and commercial partners.
  • Create growth plans and supporting strategies. Improve performance by evaluating processes to drive efficiencies.
  • Monitor performance indicators, highlight trends, analyse causes of unexpected variance and take appropriate action.

 The Experience

  • Past performance of overseeing major consuming facing sports and entertainment events
  • A knowledge of the Australian sponsorship landscape with a track record in commercial negotiations
  • Preference to an established network of relationships in the region
  • Ideally an Australian resident who has delivered events in country
  • An understanding of working as a satellite office within a global team
  • Degree qualified
