The ITF is the world governing body of tennis and beach tennis, responsible for the rules of both sports and maintaining the integrity of tennis. In addition to its administrative role, the ITF is the owner and international rights holder of the two largest annual international team competitions in sport, Davis Cup by BNP Paribas and Fed Cup by BNP Paribas. The ITF also manages the Olympic Tennis Event on behalf of the IOC. Through its Science and Technical Department, the ITF closely monitors both equipment and technology, while its Officiating Department oversees the education and advancement of officials worldwide.

The ITF organises over 1,000 weeks of men’s and women’s professional tournaments on the ITF Pro Circuit and coordinates the rapidly growing ITF Beach Tennis Tour. Through its Tennis Development Department that oversees the development of tennis worldwide, the ITF manages the ITF Junior Circuit and team competitions for elite juniors as well as international tennis events and programmes for wheelchair and senior players. The ITF also manages the Tennis Anti-Doping Programme on behalf of the sport and is a partner in the Tennis Integrity Unit.

The Role

The ITF Communications department is responsible for all external communications, plus day-to-day press and public relations. The department also provides on and off-site media support at events including the four Grand Slam tournaments and Davis Cup and Fed Cup ties. The ITF promotes tennis worldwide through a combination of websites, social media and publications, all of which are managed or overseen by the department.

The purpose of this role is to oversee the production of ITFWorld magazine while the editor is seconded to another project within Communications, and also to work on other projects/tasks as part of the wider, 11-strong Communications team. The successful candidate will report to the Project Lead, Photo Archive and Publications, and support them in some of their other activities. The successful candidate will also provide a range of written content for digital and print use as required.


ITFWorld magazine

To be acting editor of the ITF’s official magazine, a mainly BTB 40-page publication which is published three times a year (May 2018, August 2018, December 2018, May 2019). This includes:

  • Generating content which promotes the ITF and its ITF2024 strategy, planning, commissioning copy and photos, writing features and other copy, choosing/sourcing photos, editing all copy
  • Working closely with external creative agency to agree design; editing and proofing
  • Managing the mailing list and organising the mailing/shipments for each issue
  • Promoting ITFWorld via press releases and ITF digital properties
  • Managing budget
  • Working with Senior Coordinator, Digital Services to repurpose/share ITFWorld content for digital use and where appropriate plan a combined commissioning approach
  • Working with the External Communications team, lead an overhaul of the ITFWorld mailing list to ensure it is going to the right people

Olympic Tennis Event

  • Working with Project Lead, Photo Archive and Publications, generate and consider ideas for 2020 Olympic publication(s) and start producing content in support of this project as necessary
  • Support Communications to generate any other Olympic content for print/digital as required

World Champions Dinner

  • Working with Project Lead, Photo Archive and Publications, and Presidential department, assist with the provision of content for the World Champions Dinner in June, including photographic and video content

General writing

  • Leading on production of programme messages and editorials for ITF events including the creation of standard templates
  • Ad hoc writing tasks as needed by the department/wider ITF, including press releases, and pieces for the ITF’s digital properties

Qualifications & Skills

  • Excellent standard of written English and experience of writing for a range of audiences including corporate
  • Proven track record of editing a print publication
  • Strong editing skills, excellent attention to detail
  • Would suit a journalist/someone with journalist training looking for a broader Communications role
  • Creative, good at generating ideas
  • Self-starter and fast learner, able to work on own projects to deadlines as part of a larger Communications team
  • Flexible and happy to take on other tasks within the department as required by needs of business
  • Interest in tennis and other sports, and able to demonstrate good tennis knowledge
  • Appreciation of good photography/design
  • Good knowledge of French would be useful for oversight of translations into French and ad hoc short translations
  • Occasional travel if needed
